Form a team to attend the national course offering of Balancing Nature and Commerce in Communities that Neighbor Public Lands, being offered January 26-29, 2009 at the National Conservation Training Center. During this four day course, teams comprised of 4-7 representatives consisting of public land managers and community members focus on the economics, natural resources and community character of their areas and learn valuable partnership-building skills. At the end of the four days, teams leave with specific action plans for implementation when they return home. This course is offered in partnership with the US Fish and Wildlife Service / NCTC and the NPS / Conservation Study Institute.
The Conservation Fund is partnering with the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) to develop and pilot a course on implementation of green infrastructure strategies specifically designed for public utility managers and officials, with an emphasis on how utilities can initiate, fund, construct, and maintain green infrastructure projects to meet their water supply and water quality needs. How Green Is My Infrastructure? A Regional Approach to Municipal Planning and Investment is being offered April 14-16, 2009 at the National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, WV.
May 18 – 22, 2009 will be your next opportunity to attend Strategic Conservation Using a Green Infrastructure Approach at the National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, WV. This course is offered in partnership with the US Fish and Wildlife Service / NCTC.
The Army Corps of Engineers, the Environmental Protection Agency, and US Fish and Wildlife Service are partnering with The Conservation Fund for a third offering of a Training Course for Mitigation Bank & In-Lieu Fee Program Interagency Review Teams. New this year, are sessions on in-lieu fee programs. This is a comprehensive week-long training for federal and state regulators who serve on Mitigation Bank and In-Lieu Fee Program Interagency Review Teams. This course will be held at the National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, WV, June 15 – 19, 2009.
GIS Tools for Strategic Conservation Planning provides the opportunity for you to apply Green Infrastructure concepts and principles using GIS! This course will be offered in June 23-26, 2009 at NOAA Coastal Services Center in Charleston, SC. This course is offered in partnership with NOAA Coastal Services Center and is designed for advanced GIS practitioners. Registration will open in January.
Water Reuse for Intensive Fish Culture is a five-day course presented by The Conservation Fund Freshwater Institute, is being offered July 6-10, 2009 in Bar Harbor, Maine. This course covers the fundamentals of design and management of water reuse systems. The USDA National Cold Water Marine Aquaculture Center in Franklin, Maine will host the site visit for the course. This facility is a state-of-the-art fish culture center based on system design concepts covered in the course.
The Conservation Leadership Network also conducts custom courses for agencies, municipalities and other entities interested in advancing specific conservation goals. In the spring of 2009, CLN instructors will conduct place-based Green Infrastructure workshops in DeSoto County, Mississippi (March 11-13) and the Pacific Northwest (May 4-8).
