Partnership in Wyoming Secures Migration Route

An icon of the American West, the pronghorn makes one of the longest land mammal migrations in the continental United States. Part of this epic journey takes place on top of productive natural gas fields in Wyoming’s Upper Green River Valley, making it a prime target for development. Since 2008, the Fund, local ranchers and other partners have protected approximately 8,000 acres of private land and enhanced more than 90,000 acres of public land. In particular, our partnership with the Carney Ranch secures the last unprotected bottleneck along the vulnerable migration route.

“We’ve covered so much ground together in the past few years,” said Luke Lynch, the state’s director for the Fund, “and have made a real difference in the habitat quality of the Upper Green River Valley, while at the same time preserving Wyoming’s strong legacy of family ranching.”
