The Future of Development is Green

What is green infrastructure? In 1999, it was mostly just a good idea: We should protect the web of waterways, wilderness, parks, working farms and ranches, and other spaces that keep our communities healthy and ecologically vibrant. The Fund turned this good idea into on-the-ground conservation, championing the use of green infrastructure as a strategic development plan for cities and counties. With our help, these communities map and manage their natural assets and actively plan for their future expansion and protection.

In our hallmark book Green Infrastructure, in professional training courses and in projects from Hawaii to Delaware, we’ve led the way in showing how communities can grow without losing the economic and environmental services—from tourism to flood control—that come with healthy green spaces.
