One of the Nation's Best Conservation Investments
Conserving America’s magnificent land legacy requires savvy investing, and our Revolving Fund has been a pioneering and powerful tool at the center of our work for 25 years. Every dollar in the fund is used to buy land, and only land—no overhead, no administrative expenses. The Revolving Fund is permanently restricted for this purpose, so the money will never be spent in any other way.
Dollar for dollar, our Revolving Fund has protected more land than any other land conservation vehicle.
We use the fund to acquire high-priority land on behalf of our partners, including the National Park Service, state wildlife agencies, or many other national and local organizations. Then we hold the land until our partners can buy it back from us. When they do, the money returns to the Revolving Fund to pay for our next land conservation project. Because we most often acquire lands at prices below the fair market value, we have saved the American people more than $1 billion. Every $1 million invested in our Revolving Fund has conserved more than $25 million of land, making it one of our nation’s best conservation investments.
