In Virginia, the Fund’s network of public and private partnerships is essential to its conservation success. The Fund has protected more than 54,000 acres of the state’s natural and historic landscapes since 1985.

Big Survey Wildlife Management Area, VA

To protect Big Survey in Virginia’s southwestern mountains, the Fund formed a wide-ranging partnership of state legislators, town and county officials, private landowners, and the Western Virginia Land Trust.   Read more>

Civil War Battlefield Conservation, VA

The Conservation Fund's Civil War Battlefield Campaign works in partnerships to protect our nation's hallowed ground, to provide comprehensive information on the 384 principal Civil War battlefields, designated by the Civil War Sites Advisory Commission, and to honor those that fought and died in the war.   Read more>

New River, VA

In 2004 the Fund worked with conservation champions Phil and Charlotte Hanes, New River Land Trust, and Virginia Outdoors Foundation to purchase a conservation easement on the Young Farm, protecting 218 acres of farmland and a mile of riverfront.  Read more>

Rappahannock River National Wildlife Refuge, VA

In 2002, funds raised through the Chesapeake Challenge, a partnership between Bass Pro Shops, The Conservation Fund, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, helped the Fund acquire nearly 460 acres to expand the Rappahannock River National Wildlife Refuge.   Read more>
