CLN Digest - 2009 Year in Review

Throughout 2009, the Conservation Leadership Network worked with a broad array of partners, bringing together professionals at national, state, regional, and local levels to achieve common ground and on-the-ground results that benefit our treasured natural resources, economic health, and community quality of life. A few highlights are included in this Year in Review. We also include key events planned for next year—new courses, new projects, new partners, and ever stronger results.

Focus on Infrastructure and the Environment

The Conservation Leadership Network hosted two seminal events this year – the National Summit on Infrastructure and the Environment and “Looking Beyond the Transportation Footprint,” the summer meeting of the Transportation Research Board’s Environmental Analysis and Transportation Committee. Both of these events highlighted the critical relationship between infrastructure and the environment. Read more »

New Courses on the Horizon

In 2010, the Conservation Leadership Network will deliver two new pilot courses: Conservation Banking, a course designed for regulators, users, and bankers; and a course for communities entitled Planning for Climate Change Using a Green Infrastructure Approach.

Upcoming Training & Other Projects in 2010

Our 2010 calendar promises to be a great year! The 2010 line-up of national course offerings includes: Balancing Nature and Commerce in Communities that Neighbor Public Lands in January, Green Infrastructure in March and September, Mitigation Banking for IRT s in June, and Conservation Banking (our newest course) in July. We’ll also be on the road, bringing Balancing Nature and Commerce workshops to communities in Tennessee, Pennsylvania and Michigan; joining our new partner, CSX, in Maryland and Pennsylvania, and heading to the mid-west to lead mitigation focus groups for the NiSource Multi-Species Habitat Conservation Plan. And, that’s just to start!

Year in Review

In addition to our national course offerings, we brought the Green Infrastructure training to eight locales around the country! We continued our partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Appalachian Regional Council and the National Endowment for the Arts offering tourism assessments and workshops to gateway communities in the Appalachian Region.
